Going Green in the QC

Sitting home bored the other night I turned on the television to “Tom Brokaw Presents American Character along Highway 50”. He was interviewing a cowboy from Colorado who raises cattle organically. Coming from a background in the culinary industry I was interested in his story and it sent me off doing some research about sustainability and “going green.”

Among many messages that I read through yesterday one particular Facebook alert caught my eye. The Neighborhood Theatre that lights up the streets of Charlotte’s Northern Arts District could be in danger of darkening for good.

A 22-year-old North Carolina woman who put her toddler in boiling water and burned his foot with a cigarette has been sentenced to prison.

Now in theaters is director Wes Anderson’s (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited) stop-motion animation adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl children’s book, Fantastic Mr. Fox. Recently taking office for over-tenured, outgoing mayor Pat McRory is newly-elected Charlotte mayor Anthony Foxx. Visiting the tri-Lombardied New England Patriots this weekend are the 5-7 Carolina Panthers and their embattled head coach John Fox. What do these three have in common?

When this story broke last week, its upside had a lot of people on board the idea. This prospect would bring $131 million in capital investments to the area as well as about 600 jobs over the next five years. This all seems good and well needed, but no one’s asking the bigger question here: What will be the long-term effect of having the Legion of Doom stationed here in Charlotte?

One big highlight of yesterday’s game was an Einstein looking man walking around the tailgates selling stickers for a charity. If you were at the game tailgating, I’m sure you saw him.
