Recently, the Charlotte Observer ran a story titled, “3rd woman accuses officer”. The title alone sparked my interest, so I continued reading. As reported by the Observer, Marcus Jackson, a 25 year old Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, has been charged with three counts of sexual battery, second-degree sexual offense, kidnapping, extortion, indecent exposure and felonious restraint.
Jackson who had a previous criminal record, somehow passed the background check, and established his career in law enforcement. Yet, allegations have surfaced that Jackson misused his authority by sexually assaulting young women after routine stops. In addition, the article discloses information of previous complaints against Jackson, which range from speeding to breaking into his estranged wife’s apartment. Imagine that.
This story hits home… literally. For me, it’s a problem for this to even be an allegation amongst our law enforcement. I mean how can you feel safe, especially as a woman? If it is true, CMPD you have some serious explaining to do.
