Stogies and Stilettos

Stogies & Stilettos 2010 begins this weekend. After seeing a little information about the series last year I decided to take a closer look at today’s Stogies and Stilettos flyer I received in my mailbox.

It turns out the intriguing name of Stogies & Stilettos is a series of seven seminars aimed at teaching about intimacy, the opposite sex and embracing each of our similarities and differences.

Automatically my eyes veered to the bottom of the leaflet to find out whose perspective would be on hand to tell me how to understand these very personal relationships.

Watershed Charlotte listed on the bottom printed a short blurb about being a church for those striving to do justice and walk humbly with God.
It made me take a look at the each of the topics in the seminar beginning January 10th.

Topics entitled Think Like a Man, Flying Solo, and Love = Grace compelled me to do a little research. After googling the series Stogies & Stilettos just to come up short (just a few short blips about last years) I decided to take a closer look at the Watershed church itself and found their website although not totally informative, better equipped to answer my questions about perspective.
The site listed the church as a not a place but more of an action. The act of being together. They meet at a place called Center Stage on Sundays for the series, a building rented for their regular church days throughout the year. It is one of several churches within the same area that has popped up throughout the past few years that caters to the urban Charlottean.

The website lists each service as…a time to converse, embrace, interact, hang out, drink coffee, learn, grow, listen, laugh, worship…where it’s safe to be an inquirer…where you can come as you are in full authenticity… and apparently that’s the truth. The pictures depict folks in casual clothing listening to music.

The upcoming Stogies & Stilettos series about men, women, and relationships includes a total of seven separate events each Sunday beginning this week.
They encourage those young, old, single, dating, or married to attend.
